CAIRO: Egyptian presidential candidate Hazem Salah Abu Ismail welcomed chief of the External Relations Committee in the Congress, Senator John Kerry, during his visit. Abu Ismail considers communication between the U.S. Administration and Islamists a sign of victory and highlights the U.S. understand Egyptians' tendencies. Abu Ismail told journalists today December 12 the elections' results in the first phase created a state of attack and media distortion to limit the Islamists' success in the next phases. He considered these campaigns are useless because Egyptians are naturally devout and they chose their own representatives in a democratic manner. Concerning the application of the Sharia Islamic law, Abu Ismail said he will not apply according to his whims but according to the true Islam. He pointed out the second article in the constitution does not include applying it because it states the application of Islam's concepts, not Islam's provisions. Abu Ismail clarified he invited all political forces, parties and coalitions to a conference on Saturday December 11 to take the needed procedures to political mobilization and the current situation and to protect the elections as it could confront dangers to ruin them. Concerning the criticism of Egypt's ruling military council, Abu Ismail said they did not criticize the army and do not want the demolition of the military foundation. But they need the army to remain as it is and not interfere in politics or ruling the country by conducting the presidential elections six months after the parliamentary elections to hand over authority to an elected civilian government. About the current investigations of the death of Tahrir demonstrators, Abu Ismail said they are dishonorable, not taken seriously and caused some accused to run away. He called for deputing a judge known for his objectivity and honesty because despite of the violence, no police officer was accused except the one whose picture was published on the internet.
