New Israeli ambassador to Egypt Yacoub Amitai will arrive in Cairo on Monday, replacing former ambassador Yitzhak Levanon who left Egypt amidst a popular uprising at the Israeli embassy last summer, diplomatic sources in the Israeli Foreign Ministry reported. The new ambassador will have to conduct embassy business from his home in Maadi until a new, safe headquarters are located in Cairo, sources told the Voice of Israel today. The ambassador is scheduled to spend several days in Cairo arranging the upcoming work for the embassy, after which he will return to Tel Aviv to discuss security issues with the Israeli government. The ambassador is known for his Arab and African affairs prowess after serving as Israel's ambassador to Ethiopia, where he strengthened Israeli relations with Nile Basin countries.
