CAIRO: Youm7 conducted an opinion poll about the dispute between political parties and Deputy Prime Minister Ali el-Selmy over supraconstitutional principles. Selmy drafted a document of supra-constitutional principles in which Article 9 granted the military special privileges, to the ire of many political parties. According to the results, 83.64 percent of the readers said the dispute will accelerate, while 11.2 percent disagreed. Respondents saying have no opinion numbered 5.15 percent. It provided that only the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces shall be authorized to consider the armed forces' affairs and that budget that will be listed as budget No 1 of the public budget. Only the council can authorize legislation concerning the armed forces, according to the document. It also stipulates that Egypt's president is the Commander-in Chief of the Armed Forces, while the Minister of Defense is the General Commander of the Armed Forces. It would grant the president the power to declare the war upon approval from the Supreme Council and the Peoples' Assembly.
