Islamic parties announced a press conference for Wednesday, responding to a meeting held by Deputy Prime Minister Ali el-Selmy with political parties that discussed drafting supra-constitutional principles Tuesday. Media spokesman of the Salafi al-Nour Party, Nader Bakar, said the parties would announce their opposition to the idea of principles for Egypt's new constitution. “We are committed to the national will, which determined a roadmap in the referendum of March 19,” said Bakar, referring to the constitutional referendum that passed constitutional amendments ahead of elections rather than drafting a constitution before them. Bakar said the timing of Selmy's document is strange. He said the transitional government should focus on restoring security and resolving the judiciary crisis, rather than focusing on other things. He said that the party called many parties and political forces together as a prelude to a conference Wednesday. He assured the Islamic Coalition parties and other parties would attend.
