The Egyptian Minister of Culture Dr. Emad Abu Ghazi, the ambassador of the Republic of Korea Mr. Jong-kon Yoon and the chairman of the National Library and Archives Dr. Mohamed Saber Arab will inaugurate on Tuesday at 11 am a project titled "The Korean Window." The inauguration will be held at the General Authority of the National Library and Archives in Cairo. Dr. Arab said the project will display 3,848 books and DVDs (in both Korean and English) introducing the political, economic, historical, cultural and social aspects of Korea along with Korea's unique developmental expertise. Dr. Arab said this project is one of the outcomes of the MOU signed between the General Authority of the National Library and Archives and the National Library of Korea, in 2006 in Seoul. He added the National Library was selected as a venue for displaying such a precious collection of Korean books and videos to not only enhance cultural ties between Egypt and Korea, but to also provide accurate information to all Egyptians interested in Korean affairs. Ambassador Yoon said Egypt was chosen to establish "The Korean Window," and that this was the first cultural project in which Korea deals with the Arab or African region. He said that it shows Korea's growing interest in developing good bonds with Egypt, especially in the cultural aspect as this is considered one of the most effective ways of exchange and cooperation. The Korean Ambassador said the National Library of Korea will continue to supply "The Korean Window" with an updated collection of books and DVDs. He also said that he hopes this project will spread Korean culture to Egyptians. I hope it will be a cultural bridge that develops communication and understanding between Egypt and Korea, said Yoon. At the inauguration there will be a painting exhibition for a Korean artist named Kim Hyun-Ju. The exhibition will be held at the gallery of the National Library and Archives and will show 18 paintings, which artist Kim has painted during her stay in Egypt. The paintings will combine elements of the Korean spirit with Egyptian scenarios.
