New Egyptian cultural bridge with S. Korea
Published in The Egyptian Gazette on 23 - 05 - 2011

CAIRO - Minister of Culture Emad Abu Ghazi, Jong Kon-yoon, the Ambassador of South Korea to Egypt and Mohamed Saber Arab, the Chairman of the National Library and Archives will open tomorrow a 'Window on Korea' at the General Authority for National Library and Archives in Cairo.
Arab said the 'Window on Korea' would display 3,848 books and DVDs, in both Korean and English languages that introduce the political, economic, historical, cultural and social aspects of Korea along with the Korean unique developmental expertise.
Arab added that this project was one of the outcomes of the MoU signed between the General Authority for National Library and Archives and the National Library of Korea, in 2006 in Seoul, Korea.
He said that the National Library was selected as a venue for displaying such precious collection of Korean books and video materials, not only to enhance cultural ties between Egypt and Korea, but also to provide accurate information to all Egyptian students and the general public interested in Korea affairs.
For his part, Ambassador Jong Kon- yoon, said Egypt was chosen to establish "Window on Korea," the first project of its kind in the Arab and African regions. It reflects Korea's growing interest in developing amicable bonds with Egypt in all fields, particularly the cultural domain, which is considered one of the most active fields of exchanges and co-operation between the two countries.
The Korean diplomat added that the National Library of Korea would continue to supply the Korean Window with an up-to-date collection of books and DVDs. He also expressed his hope that the Window on Korea would further contribute to spreading Korean culture among the Egyptian people, thus to be a cultural bridge that develops communication and understanding between the Egyptian and Korean peoples.
On the sidelines of the inauguration of the Korean Window, a painting exhibition for Korean artist Kim Hyun-ju will be held at the gallery of National Library and Archives.
The exhibition will show 18 paintings, which artist Kim has drawn during her stay in Egypt that introduce a mixture between the Korean spirit and Egyptian scenes and life.
