Ahli defender Wael Gomaa is hopeful he can return from injury when the Reds kick off their Champions League group stage campaign against Mazembe next month. Gomaa has been struggling for nearly two months with a recurring calf injury that ruled him out of Egypt's recent World Cup and CAN 2013 qualifiers. He has now resumed full training as his club hold their pre-season camp in Turkey, but will not be ready for match action before the end of the month. “I should be fit to play matches in 10 days," Gomaa, who is currently undergoing a rehab program in Portugal, told FilGoal.com. “I will be very glad if I was able to play against Mazembe." Gomaa is set to miss out again for Egypt when the Pharaohs visit Central African Republic in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on June 30.
Ahli will meet DR Congo giants Mazembe in Cairo on July 6/7/8. Konan arrival Commenting on the signing of Oussou Konan from MCDR, Gomaa believes the Ivorian hitman is a rare African talent. "I think he can be a great addition to Ahli because he has some qualities that foreign strikers in Egypt do not have," Gomaa said. "Konan is not just a typical African forward with pace and power, he is also technically gifted. "I think he has got exactly what we are missing in Ahli's attack."
