Ahli have a chance to go top of their Champions League group after joint-leaders Esperance and Wydad Casablanca played out a goalless draw on Saturday. With just a couple of points separating them from top spot, Egyptian champions Ahli can outrun their North African rivals if they beat MC Alger in Algiers on Sunday. Esperance dominated the game in Tunis, but the visitors had goalkeeper Nader Layaghri to thank for getting a clean sheet against the Tunisian giants. It is the second stalemate between the two sides as Wydad came back from two goals down to claim a 2-2 draw at home a fortnight ago, while Ahli beat Alger 2-0 in Cairo. Wydad and Esperance remain tied on six points but the Moroccans have a better goal difference, while Ahli are third on four points, three ahead of Alger. Following their domestic success last term, Ahli made a poor start to the group stage campaign, drawing at home with Wydad in the opening game before losing 1-0 at Esperance.
