Belgian champions Anderlecht suffered a surprising 1-0 home defeat against Sporting Charleroi in the Belgian League game on Saturday. Tim Smolders scored the only goal of the game to hand Ahmed Hassan's team their first defeat in eight domestic games this season. The defeat left Anderlecht in second position with 15 points, five adrift of leaders Standard Liege, who were held 0-0 at rock bottom Sint-Truidense VV. Egypt skipper Hassan played the whole game for the Purple and White, whose frontline seems to be suffering after the departure of Congolese striker Mohamed Tchite this summer. Hassan formed a deadly partnership with Tchite last term, as the African duo scored 31 between them to lead Anderlecht to the title.
