Ahmed Hassan's Anderlecht suffered a surprising 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Standard Liege in the first leg of the Belgian Cup semi-finals on Tuesday. A 67th minute strike from Serbian forward Milan Jovanovic settled the tie to give Standard a clear advantage over the Belgian champions in the second leg. Hassan played the whole game for Anderlecht as Standard managed to hold the Egyptian skipper for 90 minutes and keep the clean sheet. The return match will be played on May the 9th, with Gent and Club Bruges clashing on Wednesday in the other semi-final tie. Anderlecht are leading the Belgian Jupiler League on 65 points as their bids in repeating the double this season are in doubt after the cup defeat.
