Frank Lampard scored and dished out an assist to help Chelsea beat Sheffield United 2-0 at the Bramall Lane Stadium in the Premiership on Saturday. The English international opened the score line just before the break and Michael Ballack grabbed his second league goal to seal the victory for the English champions. The victory put Chelsea temporarily on top of the table with 25 points, three ahead of Manchester United, who face Bolton Wanderers later on Saturday. Sheffield surprisingly had the upper hand in the first-half, playing with a compact defense and making dangerous counter attacks. They were awarded a penalty in the 17th minute when Didier Drogba appeared to have tucked Sheffield's Claude Davis inside the area. Portuguese keeper Henrique Hilario, who took his place between the sticks after Petr Cech's long-term injury, blocked Danny Webber's weak shot. Lampard put the visitors ahead against the run of play two minutes before halftime when his free-kick deceived Sheffield keeper Paddy Kenny and went into the back of the net. Ballack ensured the win four minutes after re-start when he rose to head Lampard's cross at the far post past Kenny.
