Egypt's Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom in Geneva, on the sidelines of the 76th meeting of the World Health Assembly.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, stated that the meeting dealt with many files of joint cooperation between the two sides, foremost of which is the update of the Egyptian file submitted to obtain WHO certification, to eliminate the "Hepatitis C".
Abdel Ghaffar added that the minister touched on Egypt's commitment to working hard with WHO experts after choosing Egypt as one of the six regional headquarters in the African continent that is qualified to produce "basic acid" vaccines, and the continuous development in the readiness of production lines that the Director General of the organization inspected in an Egyptian factory, during his visit to Egypt in October of 2022.
The minister also thanked Adhanom for the WHO's support for Egypt in maintaining its polio virus-free status, through training the Ministry of Health's cadres, as well as distinguished technical support, and supporting Egypt with millions of doses of the oral polio vaccine.
He further added that the minister briefed Adhanom on the Ministry of Health's approach to developing health technical institutes and nursing institutes and raising their scientific and technical level to comply with international standards.
He said that the minister reviewed the Egyptian efforts to confront the dire health situation on the Sudanese borders in light of the displacement of tens of thousands, the continuation of the conflict in several areas and the direct impact of this on the deterioration of primary health services.
Abdel Ghaffar stressed the continuation of all forms and aspects of Egyptian support for the Sudanese people, and the provision of the required health services to the displaced, stressing that the joint cooperation between the World Health Organization and Egypt in these difficult circumstances represents an important axis to protect the world from extremely dangerous health crises.
