Egypt's Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar launched the Health is Saying and Doing initiative on Monday in the presence of Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus — Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO) — and renowned Egyptian cardiologist Sir Magdi Yacoub.
The celebration was held at the Children's Park on the occasion of the convening of the 69th Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean of the World Health Organisation.
During his participation in the event, Abdel Ghaffar praised the fruitful relations between the Egyptian state and the WHO, which are constantly witnessing great development, praising the efforts made by the organisation and its support to improve and develop the quality of health services, which contributes to upgrading the health system in Egypt.
He pointed out that Egypt is hosting more than 22 countries from the Eastern Mediterranean throughout the activities of the committee in order to discuss and discuss the most important health files and exchange successful experiences concerning living a healthy life.
Additionally, the committee is discussing the most important challenges and achievements in the coronavirus file, as the minister pointed out that Egypt was able to be at the forefront of countries that responded to the pandemic with the strong support of the WHO.
The minister added that the Egyptian state also has great experience in health files, including the elimination of hepatitis C, which makes it a successful model for the countries witnessing the spread of this disease, stressing that Egypt spares no effort in providing aid to countries experiencing a high incidence of hepatitis C infections, which contributes to the elimination of the virus globally.
A statement by the health ministry explained that the Health is Saying and Doing initiative was launched by the WHO to promote health and physical activity in particular as part of a healthy and sustainable future.
The statement also pointed out that the event began with a procession that included the participating delegations led by the Ministers of Health, along with the Director-General of the WHO, the Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, the workers of the organisation, government officials and representatives of United Nations agencies, in addition to guests from the diplomatic and academic circles.
Furthermore, it noted that 14 community outreach teams from the ministry were deployed during the event to provide health awareness to the participants, in addition to providing two ambulances to ensure everyone's safety.
