KUALA LUMPUR: In what observers are calling the beginning of the election season in Malaysia, the ruling Barison Nasional (BN) party has vowed to build more Chinese schools in Selangor if they can regain the state in the upcoming general election. The government of Prime Minister Najib Razak must call for an election before June of next year, while opposition officials told Bikyamasr.com on Saturday that they believe these “promises” are part of the BN's pre-election campaigning. “We feel strongly that this sort of thing is not appropriate at this time because while they did nothing wrong, it puts the opposition on the defensive before we are actually allowed to begin our campaigns,” one official said. The Selangor MCA will build more Chinese schools if Barisan Nasional (BN) regains the state at the 13th General Election, said its chairman, Senator Donald Lim Siang Chai. “We'll help the state government approve more land for Chinese schools, particularly in predominantly Chinese areas in Selangor,” he said during the Selangor MCA Convention at Wisma MCA on Saturday. The finance deputy minister also announced that on August 14 the central government had started distributing the RM5.28 million allocation, under the 2012 budget, to 31 Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina throughout Selangor.
