KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak has congratulated Egypt's new President Mohamed Morsi on his recent victory in the country's fist post-revolution election. Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood candidate, beat ousted dictator Hosni Mubarak's last Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq, garnering some 52 percent of the vote, the Egyptian Election Committee said on Sunday afternoon. The Malaysian prime minister, in his congratulatory message, said Morsi's triumph is a “clear testimony of the confidence Egyptians have towards his leadership and political vision,” said a Wisma Putra statement issued on Tuesday. “Malaysia welcomes the transformation process towards democracy currently taking place in Egypt,” and looks forward to working closely with Morsi in further strengthening the existing close relations between both countries, said Razak.
