SANA'A: As President Abdu Rabbo Mansour Hadi is coming to grip with his new powers, or as some might say, the lack thereof, members of the former regime are still defying his authority, refusing to comply with some of his decrees. Air force Commander, General Mohamed Saleh al-Ahmar, former President Ali Abdullah Saleh's half-brother refused two weeks ago to hand over his hat, remaining put in al-Dalaimi air force base, which is situated near Sana'a International Airport. His refusal actually prompted a support movement from tribes loyal to the regime, with fighters storming the airport on two separate occasions, warning of more violent reprisals of the General was to be ask to leave. Not knowing what to do since Gen. Saleh had been cured of his ultimatum and threat of a military trial, President Hadi called on the international community to intervene through the UN Security Council. It is important to note that Tarek Mohamed Saleh, the Commander of the Presidential Guards and nephew to President Saleh also refused to move to Hadramaut where Hadi decided to post him. Several other Saleh loyalists amongst whom Naji Al Zayedi, Mareb Governnor also refused to apply Hadi's decree accusing the latter of playing al-Islah's game (Yemen's Islamic political faction and main opponent to the General People's Congress, Saleh's party). UN special envoy to Yemen, Jamal Benomar, who arrived in Sana'a on Thursday evening announced that he would meet with all the parties at play and define a peaceful course of action. He warned that the UN would not tolerate for any party to hinder the transition process and renounce the GCC brokered agreement. Moreover, President Hadi announced that the coming few days would see the issuance of yet more decrees in regards to the military restructuration of Yemen.
