SANA'A: According to military sources inside al-Dalaimi air force base which is situated directly adjacent Sana'a International airport, a few kilometers north of the capital, Sana'a, a loud explosion has been reported. It is alleged that troops loyal to defected General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar, a senior leader of Yemen's Islamic party, al-Islah and the country's most powerful men after Ahmed Ali Saleh, former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, could have successfully carried out an attack against al-Dalaimi as it seeks to oust its commander, General Mohamed al-Ahmar, Saleh's half-brother. Last month, more than 800 soldiers and air force officers defected from the base following an altercation with General Mohamed al-Ahmar, as men accused him of corruption and thievery, demanding his immediate ouster. The brewing mutiny prompted an immediate and forceful response on the part of the Republican Guards and Central Security Forces as they worked at crushing the movement. As a result defectors ended up bringing their protest to then Vice-President Abdu Rabbo Mansour Hadi, as newly elected President Hadi has yet to honor his promises of military reforms. A few days ago, several defected officers amongst whom Brigadier Abdu al Ghani from al-Dalaimi warned the government that they would escalate the matter and if necessary take things into their own hands. Today, facts are pointing to an alliance with General Mohsen against Gen. Mohamed al-Ahmar, one of Saleh's pillars. No reports were made so far as to whether there were some casualties or how the government was planning to handle this new bout of violence. Despite reassuring words from the presidency and the coalition government security seems to be further sleeping away as Yemen reverts onto a state of instability.
