CAIRO: Traffic through Egypt's Suez Canal was disrupted after a 42,000-ton container ship hit ground on Sunday due to engine failure, an official at the Suez Canal Authority said. The ship, flying the Liberian flag, ran aground at al-Kantara city near the Mediterranean city Port Said, blocking the movement of 28 other ships in the waterway, the official was quoted by Reuters as saying On Sunday evening, a spokesman of the Suez Canal Authority, Tarek Hassanein, told state news agency MENA that traffic resumed on Sunday evening after a three hour disruption while the Liberian ship was grounded. He added that the failure of the engine of the Liberian ship did not cause damage to other ships and did not lead to oil spills in the Canal. BM
