Ayman Nour to submit presidential candidacy papers Friday
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 04 - 04 - 2012

Ayman Nour, the prominent political figure and the chairman of Ghad al-Thawra Party, has announced that he would be submitting his presidential nomination papers to the Presidential Elections Commission on Friday.
Nour said that he would march with his supporters in a rally from the Al-Azhar Mosque to the commission headquarters.
On his Twitter account, Nour said he had visited the headquarters at the Andalus Palace in Cairo to inquire about candidacy regulations, saying he had no legal barriers.
Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, restored Nour's full political rights, which had been suspended as the result of a forgery conviction in 2005.
Nour came second in the 2005 election, Egypt's first multi-candidate race for the presidency, after former President Hosni Mubarak.
After Nour was granted amnesty, the supreme body of Ghad al-Thawra Party held a meeting during which they unanimously elected Nour as the party's presidential candidate.
Ghad al-Thawra won two seats in the People's Assembly for the Democratic Alliance headed by the Freedom and Justice Party.
During his visit to the commission headquarters, Nour said the Egyptian people were able to distinguish between real revolutionaries and those benefitting from the revolution. He pointed out that he would be announcing his electoral platform within hours.
As of Wednesday, 11 candidates have submitted the necessary papers to the PEC, most notably Amr Moussa, Abdel Moneim Abouel Fotouh, and Hazem Salah Abu Ismail.
