Catalonia (Spain) - Catalan police confirmed on Twitter in the early hours of Friday morning that a new terrorist attack had taken place in the coastal town of Cambrils, 100 kilometres south of Barcelona. "We are working on the hypothesis that the events in Cambrils are a terrorist attack. We have taken down the alleged attackers", they tweeted. Video footage of part of the incident posted on Twitter showed sirens flashing on the promenade. Shots suddenly interrupted the scene, forcing the cameraman to take cover urgently. Other videos show the start of the attack from inside a bar, and several dead terrorists lying on the ground. Minutes earlier, police and emergency services had tweeted hurriedly to urge residents in Cambrils to stay indoors. Spanish media, citing police sources, reported four or five people had been shot dead. Less than 12 hours previously, a van ploughed into crowds in central Barcelona, killing 13 and injuring more than 100. The Islamic State later claimed responsibility for that attack.
