Cairo – Dr. Mohammed al-Maharsawi, dean of Al-Azhar University, said that his policy is not to tolerate any ideas or orientations that are diametrically antithetical to those of Al-Azhar to exist or thrive on campus. Al-Harasawi said in a press conference on Monday that Al-Azhar University is an beacon of moderate thought, and it will not give countenance to any kind of destructive and extremist ideas or rhetoric that incite hatred and violence. He added that the scientific faculties of the university are no less than other faculties in Egypt and the Arab world. They bear all hallmarks of excellence such as high quality, good calibers and efficiency. Al-Harasawi pointed out, on another note, that Dr. Osama Abdelhayy, Professor of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at the Faculty of Medicine, Al-Azhar University in Cairo, has been elected as President of the Union of Arab Doctors, which proves the efficiency of Al-Azhar's scientific colleges. He asserted that this is the best response to those demanding the separation of scientific colleges from the theoretical ones.
