Cairo - A clip was circulated on social media websites of a televised interview debate an Islamic preacher and a female undergraduate student who defended her decision to stop wearing Hijab (head veil). The student called "Somia" said that she has decided a few days ago to stop wearing Hijab because she no longer believes that Islam religion mandates women to wear it. Sabry Ebada, the deputy of Endowments Ministry, criticized Somia's decision, saying, "... woman in Islam is like a diamond that should be covered, to protect her from harassment and acknowledge her value." The hijab and women wearings in general are one of the thorny issues that always raise controversy in the Egyptian society. There are numerous laws restricting what women can wear in countries ranging from France to Uganda. In Egypt, there is no law obliging women to be veiled, however it's not just laws that dictate how women should dress.
