Dr. Shawki Allam, Grand Mufti of Arab Republic of Egypt, said that Islamic law, Sharia, forbids and illegitimatizes any relationship outside of wedlock or built on one's own terms; whatever name such a relationship would be called. He pointed out that the recent, "Single Mother" controversy is peculiar to our Arab/Islamic society. He also added that any relationship between the two sexes must be confined to marriage. "Any sexual relationship must be under a legitimate marriage contract based on mutual responsibility that keeps family together, powerful and functional, for survival of the human species is contingent on family unity and stability," he said.
Dr. Allam added that "single mother" is such an alien trend that has been introduced to our society. It will be an inadvertent error to speak of it as just a "social taboo" but rather it is "social indecency".
