As part of the So French week programme, the world premiere of 'Dalida' will be shown in Bahrain, scheduled for January 21. Dalida, is based on the true story of acclaimed music icon "Dalida" born in Cairo, who gained celebrity in the 60s, singing in French, Spanish, Arabic, Hebrew, German, Italian, playing in awarded Youssef Chahine's picture "Le Sixième Jour", and who later committed suicide in 1987 in Paris, after selling more than 130 million records worldwide The movie was screened in Aswan , Egypt last month and in France on January 11. Commenting on the announcement, Bernard Regnauld-Fabre, stated: "We welcome the news that the world premiere of Dalida will take place here in Bahrain during So French week. Her iconic status is well known by many and the movie has opened to critical acclaim in France. The film is a great addition to our busy programme of events, all due to take place later this month," Bernard Regnauld-Fabre told 'News of Bahrain'. The movie is written, directed and co-produced by Lisa Azuelos and stars Sveva Alviti as Dalida. It looks at the life of Dalida, a 1960s Italian actress born and raised in Cairo. Dalida became a star of Egypt's cinema and later turned her hand to singing which brought her worldwide acclaim. Throughout her career Dalida performed and recorded in more than ten languages, including Arabic, Italian, French, English and Japanese. She sold over 130 million records worldwide before her tragic death in Paris in 1987.
