EU reconfirms its commitment to support partner countries in the Southern Neighbourhood region by providing over €221 million for projects in Egypt, Jordan, Libya and Syria. Today, the European Union adopted over €221 million worth package aimed at promoting economic growth and job creation, supporting democracy, resilience and reconstruction, and improving health and quality of life in the Southern and Mediterranean region. The newly adopted projects will benefit Egypt, Jordan, Libya and Syria. "Today's package delivers on our commitment to assist countries in the region in addressing some of the key challenges they face – in the areas of unemployment, education, resilience and fostering democratic changes. This new funding will help create solid ground for the future, in anticipation of stabilization, democratization and reconstruction in the region" said Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations. In Egypt, €20 million over a period of two years (2016-2017) will support projects fostering inclusive economic growth and job creation, improving citizens' lives and contributing to the country's stabilisation.
