US President Barack Obama asked Congress, under new US budget proposal, to abolish the restrictions imposed on US aid to Egypt, Al Bawaba News reported Friday. Obama also asked to remove the restrictions on weapons sale, used in maintaining security, in order to help what he described as "emerging democracy" to overcome the current critical period. The US president's request suggested not to link military aid provided to Egypt with the reports of human rights status in Egypt released by international organizations. Obama's request shows a new direction of the US administration to correct the course of relations with Egypt and lift certain restrictions on aids, especially the military.
