Azbakeya Misdemeanor Court acquitted Monday 26 Egyptian men who were detained over charges of 'alleged homosexuality' and spreading debauchery in the society. The defendants were arrested early December in a Cairo male bathhouse after the police received a tip from TV journalist Mona Iraqi who claimed on her show, aired on Al Qahira wel Nas TV channel, that a group of men were allegedly engaging in gay orgies at the bathhouse. The show caused a public outrage after Iraqi aired photos of the men, semi-naked, being forcibly dragged out of the bathhouse by the police. Egypt's forensic authority conducted medical exams on the men which revealed that they had not been engaging in homosexual acts and that three of the young men were sexually assaulted without giving any more details.
