Egypt won the Arab U16 and U18 Junior Tennis Championships, Ghada Abdel-Kader reports Egypt won the Arab Junior Tennis Championships for under 18 and 16- year-olds, coming first in the overall medal standings with nine gold, eight silver and 12 bronze medals. Tunisia finished second with three gold, five silver and one bronze, while Jordan ended in third place with seven bronze. Saudi Arabia was fourth with six bronze. Under the supervision of the Arab Tennis Federation, the Egyptian Tennis Federation hosted the 24th edition for men and women U18 and the 19th Junior Arab Championship for boys and girls U16. The tournament was held in El-Gezira Sporting Club in Cairo from 10- 17 September. Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, Tunisia, Iraq and host Egypt participated. Egypt entered 32 players. The tournament was divided into individual, double and teams events. For boys U16, in the individual competition, Mazen Osama won the gold medal and Omar Sherif took silver. Ahmed Alaa and Bassim Yasser won silver medals in the doubles. Egypt won the silver medal in the team discipline. The results of the men U18: in individuals, Mina Albert won gold and Sherif took silver while Mahmoud Zaazou went away with the bronze medal. Mahmoud Zaazou and George Wakim collected gold medals in doubles. Egypt garnered gold in the team competition. The results for girls U16: in the individual competition, Sandra Sameh won the gold medal and Habiba Shaker took silver, while Marina Albert and Dina Hegab won bronze medals. In doubles, Nada Badran and Habiba Shaker won silver medals, and Dana and Marina Albert took home bronze medals. Egypt's Rihan Rashad and Iraqi Ghada Al-Ojaili pocketed bronze medals. Egypt won the gold medal in team competition. The results for the women U18: in the individual competition, Mai El-Kamash won gold and Rana Sherif took silver while Salma Hosni and Moura Ishaq won bronze. In doubles, Rana Sherif and Moura Ishaq won silver medals, and Salma Fouad and Mai El-Kamash won bronze. Jordan's Jana Hatamleh and Egypt's Rawan Walid took bronze medals. Egypt captured the gold medal in the team competition. Egyptian team coach Karim Zaher told Al-Ahram Weekly, "We haven't done this in many years. In teams, Egypt won three events -- women U18, boys U16 and girls U16 -- out of four which is a big achievement. Even though our rival in the different age groups was Tunisia we managed to win."
