White Knights out of the dark
Published in Al-Ahram Weekly on 04 - 12 - 2014

It seems that Portuguese coach Jaime Pacheco finally reinstalled the winning mentality inside every single Zamalek player as they registered their fifth win in a row to cement their place at the top of the Egyptian league.
A single goal from the in-form striker Bassem Morsi was enough to give the White Knights a win over Masri. This was also their fourth clean sheet in the five games they won as they defeated Semouha 2-0, Ittihad 1-0, Haras Al-Hodoud 2-0, Rajaa' 3-2 and Masri 1-0.
The players look motivated and more determined every game and at last the fans can feel they're getting their beloved team back to their best after enduring some extremely tough seasons where they went missing from competing for the league title.
Zamalek now have collected 21 points from six wins and three draws and remains alongside Ismaili as the only undefeated teams in the league so far, however, Ismaili won just four games and drew the other six.
The other results of game week 10 saw the Arab Contractors defeat Al-Shorta 2-1 to move up to 14th place in the league table while Al-Shorta remained in 12th place after the defeat.
Wadi Degla registered their fourth win in the last five games as they defeated Alaab Damanhour by a single goal scored by Ohawuchi. They have now collected 17 points from nine games and have a game in hand.
On the other hand, Alaab Damanhour stayed in 19th place with three draws, seven defeats and no wins.
Assiouti Sport came very close to winning their first game of the season but a last gasp strike from Ittihad's Alaa Kamal meant the game ended in an entertaining 2-2 draw, a result that probably harmed both teams as they now sit in 17th and 18th places respectively with Ittihad collecting eight points from nine games and Assiouti Sport collecting four points from 10 games as their winless streak continues.
An extremely outstanding performance from Enppi saw them destroy newcomers Al-Nasr as they defeated them 6-0 in a game that could have ended by a much bigger score-line. Enppi cemented their place as second in the league table with 20 points from nine games and seem to be more than capable of going all the way to compete for the league title this season.
It was the ninth defeat from 10 games for poor Al-Nasr as they seem to be on their way back to the second division.
The game between Ahli and Geish was postponed as Ahli was playing in the final of the CAF Confederations Cup on the same day where they lost the first leg 2-1 away from home at the hands of Sewe Sport. Ahli played only seven league games so far and collected 14 points and maximum points in their postponed games will keep them on track to compete with Zamalek and Enppi for the league title this season.
Semouha and Al-Gouna played out a 1-1 draw that left Semouha in 10th place with 14 points and Al-Gouna in 13th place with 11 points from 10 games as well.
Petrojet managed to collect maximum points from their game against Dakhleya as a single goal from Shaarawi eight minutes from time meant Petrojet moved up to seventh place while Dakhleya moved from fourth to fifth in the table with 16 points from 10 games.
