New Egypt coach Gharib 'will leave post' if Pharaohs fail in Africa The 2018 World Cup finals are the main target of Egypt's new coach, but any earlier failure at the continental level could lead him to resign
Egypt 's newly appointed coach, Shawky Gharib, says he will leave his post if he doesn't manage to lead the Pharaohs to the 2015 African Cup of Nations finals in Morocco. Gharib has officially put pen to paper in a contract with the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) for a monthly salary of LE150,000, reported Al-Ahram's Arabic website on Monday. "I will leave my post regardless of any release clauses if I fail to guide the team to the 2015 African Cup of Nations finals, as the country's interest is my priority," Gharib was quoted as saying by the EFA official website after signing the contract. "My main target is to reach the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia. I will add some new blood to the team while maintaining its overall direction. "Reaching the 2015 and 2017 African Cup of Nations and competing for the titles will be the other targets to restore our glory," concluded the 54-year-old coach. Gharib is no stranger to Egypt's trenches, having assisted former coach Hassan Shehata during a highly-successful period that saw the Pharaohs win three straight African Cup of Nations titles in 2006, 2008 and 2010. Under former American coach Bob Bradley, Egypt failed to qualify for both the 2013 African Cup of Nations and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
