Zamalek reject UAE loan offer for outcast Shikabala Zamalek turn down an offer from United Arab Emirates club Al-Wasl to sign out-of-favour forward Mahmoud Abdel-Razek ‘Shikabala'
Zamalek have rejected an $800,000 bid from UAE side Al-Wasl to sign forward Shikabala on a season-long loan, the Egyptian giants said on Friday. Shikabala, one of Egypt's most talented players, has fallen out of favour with the club since his infamous touchline row with former coach Hassan Shehata during an African Champions League preliminary-round game in May. “Zamalek have asked Al-Wasl to up their bid. We have set a $1.5 million as price tag to loan out Shikabala for one season,” board member Ibrahim Youssef said on the club's official website. “We are sticking to our earlier decision to loan out the player. Reports that we intend to keep him and sack the technical staff are completely wrong,” he added. Former Egypt coach Shehata resigned as Zamalek boss earlier this week after the team slumped to a 1-0 loss to Ahly in the Champions League, extending their winless streak against their Cairo foes to 13 matches. Reports suggested that he left because Zamalek's board tried to coax him into pardoning Shikabaka, whose presence is sorely missed as the White Knights continue to struggle for creativity. Assistant coach Ismail Youssef, the younger brother of Ibrahim Youssef, will take over at the team for an interim period. His first match in charge will be against TP Mazembe of the DR Congo in Group B of the Champions League on 4 August.
