Shehata refuses to pardon 'troublemaker' Shikabala Zamalek's coach Hassan Shehata refuses to pardon the team's forward Mahmoud Abdel-Razek 'Shikabala' despite his apology for an outburst
Coach Hassan Shehata stood firm on his decision not to forgive Zamalek's forward Mahmoud Abdel-Razek 'Shikabala' although the player issued an official apology on Tuesday, state-run news agency MENA reported. Shehata suspended the 26-year-old player for an indefinite period after both men were involved in a touchline row during Zamalek's 2-0 win over Maghreb Fes in a Champions League round of 16 match in May. The former Egypt coach advised the club's board to loan him out, given that he does not feature in his plans for the new season. However, a deal never materialized, with Zamalek saying they did not receive a tangible offer for the talented schemer. Shikabala, who was fined LE2 million by Zamalek, has officially apologized on Tuesday to the club's fans, the board and the coaching staff for his recent misbehavior, insisting that he will accept any disciplinary action imposed on him. Some board members tried to coax Shehata into pardoning Shikabala following Zamalek's 3-2 loss to Berkeum Chelsea in their Champions League group-stage opener, during which the team produced a lackluster performance. However, Shehata stood firm on his decision, rejecting calls for reconciliation. Zamalek will host archrivals Ahy on 22 July in their second Group B game of the Champions League, Africa's premier club competition.
