Egypt's Ahly put on foot in Champions League group stage with 2-0 win

Egypt's Ahly moved to the brink of a place in the African Champions League group stage after second-half goals from two substitutes powered them to a 2-0 away win over Equatorial Guinea's Cano Sport on Saturday.
After a goalless first half, forward Salah Mohsen and experienced winger Walid Soliman netted after immediately coming off the bench to give Swiss coach Rene Weiler a winning start in the first leg of the competition's second round.
Record eight-time winners Ahly, who are chasing their first Champions League crown since 2013, host Cano Sport in the second leg in a fortnight.
Ahly had the lion's share of goal-scoring chances and were unlucky not to go ahead in the first half when winger Ahmed El-Sheikh spurned a clear-cut opportunity.
El-Sheikh also rattled the post early in the second half and blasted over the bar in a one-on-one situation shortly after.
The breakthrough finally came in the 62nd minute when Mohsen finished off a neat pass from playmaker Magdi Afsha, who joined Ahly from Pyramids FC in the summer.
Soliman also made an instant impact to add the second eight minutes from time, heading home an inviting cross from veteran right-back Ahmed Fathi.
