Squash: Omneya Abdel-Kawy reaches Qatar Classic semifinal
Seven Egyptians, three women and four men, are competing in the quarterfinals

Egyptian squash talent Omneya Abdel-Kawy has made it to the semifinals of the 2015 Women Qatar Classic in Doha Wednesday, defeating Indian Joshana Chinappa 3-2 in the quarterfinals.
“I played ok today and Joshana played really well, so I don't know how I got through this one,” world no. 6 Abdel-Kawy reacted after the game resulted in 11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-6.
“It took a lot for me to come back and win it, but that was something that I had to do and I'm pleased that I was able to go through with it," Abdel-Kawy added.
Chinappa was not an easy opponent, especially after she surprisingly ousted Egypt's world no. 1 Raneem El-Welily in the first round.
"She's been playing really well since the Carol Weymuller game and is gaining more and more confidence. Obviously, beating Raneem is a huge achievement and I think after this tournament everyone will have to be very careful against her," Abdel-Kawy added.
Abdel-Kawy will play England's Laura Massaro, who has defeated Egyptian Nouran Gohar 3-1.
“Omneya is a very different player to Nouran,” Massaro said. “She plays with softer hands, attacks a lot to the front and isn't quite as powerful as Nouran so it's a completely different game considering they're both Egyptians. We've come through the juniors together so we've played each other enough and it will just be a case of who plays the best on the day.”
Nour El-Sherbini, the third Egyptian who made it to the women's quarterfinals, is playing Camille Serme of France later Wednesday.
In the men's competition, four Egyptians are competing in the quarterfinals Wednesday. Mohamed El-Shorbagy is playing Max Lee of Hong Kong before Karim Abdel-Gawad meets the powerful Gregory Gaultier of France, while Mazen Hesham will face off against Ali Farag.
