Egypt hosts 30th Women's World Open Squash Championship
Published in Daily News Egypt on 17 - 12 - 2014

Egypt is hosting for the second time the 30th edition of the Women's World Open Squash Championship, after first hosting it in Sharm El-Sheikh in 2010.
The championship will be held in Wadi Degla, Maadi, between 15 and 20 December, with a prize fund of $150,000.
Wadi Degla is where most Egyptian squash champions win, since it has the biggest squash fields, including 50 fields. Participating in the championships are 75 squash players from 21 countries, while 10 Egyptian squash players were chosen to play in the first round of the championship. Raneem El-Welily will play against Habiba Mohamed, Nour El-Sherbini will face Nouran Gohar, Nour El-Tayeb will play against Mayar Hany Mohamed, and Omneya Abdel Kawy will play against Englishwoman Sarah Kippax.
The championship will host great challenges with the participation of English player Laura Massaro and Malaysian Nicol David, the first to win the title internationally for the 8th time since her participation.
National players from Egypt dream of winning the title for the first time in Egyptian squash history with the support of home fans. Egyptian players qualified twice for the final round in Women's World Open Squash Championship but did not win, when Nour El-Sherbini lost against English player Laura Massaro.
On 15 December, the first day of the championship, Nouran Gohar surprised everyone by winning against Nour El-Sherbini, who ranks fourth internationally, with 3 points to 1 after an 88-minute game, the former having won the 16th Women's World Open Squash Championship. Omneya Abdel Kawy also qualified for the same round following a win against Sarah Kippax with 3 points to 1. Omneya also kept the challenge going for the second day of the championship after qualifying for the 8th round when she won against Nouran Gohar with 3 points to 0 on Tuesday.
Malaysian Nicol David also won against English Emily Whitelock with 3 points to 0, while French Camille Serme won against Emma Beddoes with 3 points to 1.
