Egyptian police arrest death-sentenced former Islamist MP A Muslim Brotherhood leader, Hassan Abo-Sheashaa, was arrested Saturday in an apartment in Cairo
A Muslim Brotherhood leader who had been sentenced to death in the Wadi Natroun Prison jailbreak case was arrested Saturday and ordered detainedfor four days pending investigations , Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported. Hassan Abo-Sheashaa, 59, who had been at large, was arrested with his son at an apartment in Cairo. He is being questioned by prosecutors and will be retried. Abo-Sheashaa is a former member of the 2011-2012 parliament that was dissolved in June 2012. He worked also a pediatrician at the Nile Delta's Kafr El-Sheikh Hospital and director of the now-dissolved Freedom and Justice Party's office in the governorate. On 16 May, an Egyptian court issued a preliminary death sentence against Abo-Sheashaa and 105 other defendants, including former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi, in the Wadi Natroun case. Those sentences can still be appealed. The prosecution had charged the defendants with murder, attempted murder, looting prison weapons depots, setting fire to buildings, and releasing prisoners while escaping from the prison in January 2011. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/139228.aspx
