Ismaily to host Masry in bid to avoid memories of Port Said disaster No fans have attended a Masry match in Port Said since the February 2012 clashes which left 72 Ahly fans dead
Port Said's club Masry have received an official agreement from their Suez Canal neighbors Ismaily to host their home matches in Egyptian domestic competitions during the upcoming season. "Thanks to Ismaily club and their fans. This is a clear gesture of historical good relationships between the two clubs," Masry executive manager Hassan Kamel was quoted as saying on Al-Ahram's Sports Arabic website. The coastal club is waiting for confirmation from security authorities – expected to be announced soon. Under the leadership of coach Tarek Yehia, the Greens are finalising their league preparation with a series of friendly games, with a match against Etisalat on Thursday. The popular side skipped the last edition of the Egyptian Premier League "as a respect to Egyptian martyrs," in the wake of clashes on 1 February 2012 at Port Said stadium which left 72 Ahly fans dead. All football activities have been held behind closed doors since then and the next season was also canceled midway due to security concerns.
