An explosive device exploded near the presidential palace in Heliopolis on Monday morning, killing a police officer and injuring three others, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported. Colonel Ahmed El-Ashmawy, an explosives expert at the Cairo security directorate, was killed while attempting to defuse the device. Three police officers from explosives department were injured. Two explosive devices were found. The first one was defused while the second detonated Monday marks the first anniversary of mass protests on 30 June 2013 that demanded the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi. Since his ouster on 3 July, and the dispersal of pro-Morsi sit-ins in Rabaa and Nahda squares, there have been numerous attacks on security forces, killing at least 500 policemen and troops, according to the government. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/105108.aspx
