The Egyptian government stopped a Ministry of Finance feasibility study looking into increasing wages for public transport workers Wednesday, in response to the resumption of a strike by laborers in the Public Transport Authority. In a statement, a manager said a previous agreement between workers and management was void and the government would maintain its right to stop the study. It said workers violated the first term of the agreement that stated they would suspend their strike. The statement added that workers and management would need to consider new negotiations. Discussions would include the costs of the strikes on the authority, estimated at 1 million EGP (U.S. $167,800) daily.
