A video of the explosion at a gas pipeline in the Sinai Peninsula has been published by Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronot. The pipeline carried Egyptian natural gas to Jordan, Israel and Syria. It was blown up yesterday at dawn. As yet, the cause of the explosion is unknown. The Israeli Ministry of Energy and Electricity Resources said the exportation of Egyptian gas to Israel may not be affected by the explosion. The flow of gas may resume today or tomorrow. The Israeli power market will be badly affected if the flow of Egyptian gas is stopped, according to Israeli officials. The explosion is considered strategic to Israeli electricity security because Egyptian gas it one of the most important power resources in Israel. Israeli electric companies depend mainly on gas lines that have connected Egypt and Israel since 2008. Explosions on Egyptian gas lines badly effect the Israeli economy. Israel must search for new means of generating electricity resources. Tamar gas field which has discovered recently near Israel's Red Sea coast, will be opened on 2013. This is the third explosion on an Egyptian gas pipeline since the beginning of this year.
