Privately owned, Al-Masry Al-Youm began publishing as a daily newspaper in June 2004. Currently, Al-Masry Al-Youm publishes a daily print edition in Arabic in addition to Arabic and English online editions. Headed by Kamel Tawfiq Diab, the board includes numerous prominent Egyptian businessmen. According to its website, the paper's policy is to provide a high professional standard; incorporating the latest news into their multimedia platform; and aiming to always provide fair and balanced journalism. Since 2009, Al-Masry Al-Youm's credibility as a trustworthy news source has grown dramatically, and it has become the major print competitor to Al-Ahram, the largest state-run newspaper. Al-Masry Al-Youm received harsh criticism from the government regarding its reporting during the revolution, particularly pertaining to government-led violence against protestors and media outlets.
