Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted that his club have a scant chance of being European champions, as he tipped Spanish and English clubs for the title. Rummenigge believes that the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea have the upper hand over Bayern, who last won the trophy in 2001. "The big Spanish clubs – titleholders Barcelona, and Real Madrid who have invested a lot of money – and the English teams who have dominated the Champions League in recent seasons like Manchester United and especially Chelsea, who have been trying to win it for years now, are bigger favorites than us. We'll try to play an important role, but we're not favorites," he told UEFA.com. "The Spanish and English leagues are the best two leagues at the moment, without doubt.
European champions Barcelona "Those two leagues, and their clubs, have invested a lot of money and whoever has the best players has the best chance of going far in the competition." Difficult Despite being reasonable with his ambitions, Rummenigge conceded that fans in Germany eye more than just a quarter-final berth. "The German public still wants us to have success in the Champions League. We will have another go, of course, but unfortunately we've only made it to the quarter-finals in the last few years," he added. "It would be nice to go at least one round further. This will be difficult, however, because once you reach the knockout stage you really need to be focused. You can't have a match like we did last season at Barcelona [losing 4-0]."
