Egypt to host FAO's Regional Leadership Academy for agri-food systems
Published in Daily News Egypt on 14 - 10 - 2025

Egypt and the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) have signed a letter of intent for Egypt to host the FAO's Regional Leadership Academy, a centre aimed at training leaders and decision-makers in transforming agri-food systems.
The signing took place between Egypt's Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, and FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu during the World Food Forum (WFF) 2025 at the FAO's headquarters in Rome.
"The Academy strengthens our partnership with FAO to prepare future leaders in the field of sustainable agri-food systems," Al-Mashat said in a statement.
She added that Egypt's hosting of the academy is an important milestone in consolidating its regional role as a hub for knowledge and experience exchange in food security and agricultural development.
The academy aims to prepare young leaders to drive effective institutional change in agricultural and food policy, and to build resilient and sustainable systems to address global challenges such as climate change and resource scarcity.
"Cooperation with FAO reflects the Egyptian state's belief in the importance of investing in human capital and enhancing leadership competencies," Al-Mashat said, noting that the academy's establishment in Egypt will also contribute to enhancing South-South cooperation.
According to the letter of intent, both parties agreed to advance digital transformation in agri-food systems across the Middle East and North Africa, and to strengthen their efficiency, inclusiveness, and resilience. This will be achieved by supporting national policies, developing leadership and strategic capacities, and promoting innovative research and tailored solutions.
