Published in Daily News Egypt on 24 - 02 - 2025

Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, met with Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Leonz Eder, President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), to explore avenues for collaboration in university sports development.
The meeting coincided with the presence of the FISU delegation in Egypt, as the country hosted the General Assembly of the African University Sports Federation from 20 to 25 February 2025. A key milestone of the event was the inauguration of the African University Sports Federation office in Egypt for the first time.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, stated that discussions centered on enhancing the university sports system, with a focus on student engagement. Minister Abdel Ghaffar commended efforts to organize the International Sports and Economics Exhibition "Sports Expo" and the "Soko X" conference, both of which contribute to strengthening Egypt's role in African university sports and fostering continental collaboration.
The meeting also examined the implementation of FISU's "Healthy Campus" initiative, an international project designed to establish well-rounded university communities with access to balanced nutrition, mental health care, and top-tier sports facilities. Abdel Ghaffar highlighted Egypt's participation in the competition, emphasizing the country's qualified universities and efforts to increase student involvement in professional sports, guided by international standards in medicine, nutrition, and athletics.
Discussions further covered cooperation in training specialized personnel for organizing sports competitions and festivals. The ministers emphasized the need to develop a structured program for managing global sports tournaments and events, capitalizing on Egypt's advanced sports infrastructure and fostering experience exchange with other nations.
Minister Ashraf Sobhi reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to elevating university sports in alignment with the "Egypt 2030" vision and the objectives of the new republic. He highlighted recent upgrades to Egypt's sports facilities, which have contributed to enhancing the country's global image in the sector and promoting greater integration among universities in sports activities.
