Egypt's Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad moderated the climate finance session during the preliminary consultations before the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP26), with the participation of the European Union, and in the US Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry.
During the session which was held on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Pre-Conference in Italy on Friday, the parties discussed all the contentious points regarding the issue of climate finance, taking into account all aspects of the issue.
Egypt, in cooperation with the Vice-President of the European Commission for the Green Deal and the Swedish Minister of Environment, conducted the working sessions on climate finance, which included a number of countries: the US, China, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Japan, and Switzerland.
The sessions aimed to bridge the views of developing and developed countries participating, especially since climate finance is one of the most important elements of the Paris Agreement.
Moreover, as the chair of the session, Fouad listened to the proposals of the participating countries in the meeting, on enhancing the mobilisation of climate financial flows.
After the session ended, the conference president was informed of the results of this management in preparation for its placement in the final report of the conference.
The meeting was hosted by the Italian Ministry of Environmental Transformation, in Milano, from 30 September to 2 October.
Fouad said in media statements that the conference is a good opportunity to exchange views between the parties on environmental issues to determine priorities and joint actions that must be taken to confront climate challenges.
It is scheduled that the Egyptian Minister of Environment will hold a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the conference, where she will meet with a number of ministers concerned with climate, in order to exchange visions and viewpoints before the COP26, which the United Kingdom will chair in November.
