Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has met with Singapore's Ambassador in Cairo Dominic Goh, to discuss ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation in communications and information technology (CIT).
During the meeting, Talaat reviewed Egypt's digital strategy and efforts to achieve digital transformation. Part of these official efforts include building Egyptian citizens by providing training programmes in the field of CIT.
It also means the launch and implementation of programmes and initiatives to stimulate technological innovation and entrepreneurship among young people.
The minister stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation between Egypt and Singapore in the field of CIT, in light of the distinguished relations between the two countries. This follows the progress made in the field of emerging technology, including artificial intelligence (AI) and its various applications.
For his part, Goh highlighted his country's readiness to cooperate with Egypt in capacity building and raising, through a number of world class specialised universities.
This will also see training programmes provided so that Egyptians can access accredited certificates in a number of topics, including AI. He pointed to the possibility of cooperation in the field of providing digital services as well as digital financial inclusion.
He also invited Talaat to visit Singapore, based on the invitation extended by the country's Minister of Communications and Information Josephine Teo, who is also responsible for the Smart Nation Initiative and Cyber Security there.
The invitation aims to enhance ways of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of communications and information technology.
It is worth noting that the meeting between Talaat and Goh follows the signing of a cooperation agreement between Egypt's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Singapore's Artificial Intelligence Foundation.
The agreement will establish partnerships to spread public awareness about AI and transfer knowledge. This will take place by offering support on a practical programme for vocational training for specialists in this field.
