Osama Rabie, Chairperson of Egypt's Suez Canal Authority, has met with a Japanese delegation to exchange views on strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two sides.
The Japanese delegation included: Noke Masaki, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt; and Saito Hideaki, Deputy Director-General for Engineering Affairs at the Maritime Bureau of Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT).
During the meeting, the Japanese side expressed appreciation for the Egyptian Government's great efforts for re-floating the massive container vessel, the Ever Given.
During the courtesy call, Ambassador Noke mentioned that the Suez Canal is a very important international sea lane for maritime logistics. He praised the Suez Canal Authority's efforts for the early resumption of passage for vessels on the Canal.
Saito expressed his gratitude to the Authority for its efforts during the re-floatation of the Ever Given container ship. He also remarked that the Authority's efforts on this were appreciated by Japanese ship owners, as well as the country's shipping industry.
He added that Japan's shipping industry accounts for 7% of the vessels passing through the Suez Canal.
In response to their remarks, Rabie expressed appreciation for the courtesy visit, and explained details of the accident and the emergency work for the early resumption of movement along the Suez Canal. He also mentioned his pride in the Authority's hard work during this complicated crisis.
Saito said that, although the accident was unfortunate, the friendly relationship between Japan and Egypt is unwavering. He noted that he is convinced that this gives another opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the two countries, and exchange views on strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Finally, Ambassador Noke expressed his wish that the excellent, long-term relationship between the Embassy and the SCZone will continue and become stronger.
