The ministry of planning approved EGP 149m for local development programmes in different governorates of Egypt as part of the ministry's plan in the current fiscal year 2018/19.
The allocated funding is divided into about EGP 18m for development projects in Giza governorate, EGP 14m for establishing eight projects in Cairo, EGP 14m for projects in Sharqeya, and EGP 12m for projects in Daqahleya, the ministry added in a Sunday statement.
It also includes EGP 11m for implementing six projects in Qaliubiya, in addition to EGP 11m for development projects in Sohag, and EGP 9m for establishing development projects in Gharbeya.
Meanwhile, the ministry explained that the remaining sum, which is EGP 60m, will be distributed to other governorates' projects, but it did not specify those governorates.
The move come in line with the ministry's keenness to implement local development programmes nationwide to meet the needs of citizens, thus facilitating their way of life, the ministry added.
Furthermore, the ministry clarified that the most prominent development projects in the aforementioned governorates were road projects at a cost of EGP 61m and electricity network extension projects of EGP 42m.
The statement stressed that the government is interested in supporting local development projects due to their great impact on the citizens' livelihoods.
Last April, the ministry of planning had approved EGP 120m to establish several development projects in Aswan and the Nasr al-Nubia district, in addition to EGP 193m for Beni Suef.
