EETC signs contract with ABB alliance to modernise Suez Canal's area control centre for EGP 324m

The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) signed an agreement on Tuesday, with the ABB alliance to modernise the regional control centre in the Suez Canal area at a cost of EGP 324m.
Mohamed Shaker, minister of electricity and renewable energy, said that the regional control centre is used to monitor the performance of the electrical network for the seven governorates in the Suez Canal's area; Ismailia, Port Said, Suez, North Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea, and Sharqeya (10th of Ramadan city) serving nearly 12 million citizens.
Shaker explained that the modernisation of the regional control of the Canal Electricity area comes within the framework of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company's plan to modernise some of the existing regional controls, namely in, Cairo, canal area, Upper Egypt, Alexandria, and to establish new regional controls in the Delta and Central Egypt.
The strengthening of the electricity transmission and distribution networks is one of the challenges facing the electricity sector, in order to be able to absorb the produced energy from the new project, that are added to the national grid of electricity, he elaborated.
