EETC to tender establishment of five transformer stations next month
EGP 1bn allocated to replace lines with ground cables

The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) is offering a tender to establish five transformer substations in Egypt with a capacity of 14,000 MVA next month.
Sources at the Ministry of Electricity said that the tenders will be submitted as part of the plan to develop the transmission and distribution networks launched by the electricity sector last year, adding that the construction of previously contracted transformer stations will be completed in the first quarter of next year.
According to the sources, the Ministry of Electricity aims to establish cables and networks with a length of 6,174 km by 2025—equivalent to three times the cables and networks in 2014, which amounted to 2,364 km.
Next year will see a qualitative shift in the electric supply provided to consumers, the sources explained, as the projects that were supposed to be completed in 2021 will be completed next year, according to the directions of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
The sources said that work is under way on the implementation of the second phase of the national project to replace the electrical lines with ground cables, worth EGP 1bn, noting that the Ministry of Finance allocated EGP 500m in the first phase of the replacement of cables, although the total is EGP 700m.
The sources added that the sector implemented a large number of large projects, such as the Siemens stations, which add 14,400 MW to the electricity grid and led to the upgrading of the electricity network, as well as the construction of a plant to generate electricity from coal, nuclear power, pumping, and storage at Mount Ataqa.
